Softball Game Preview: Browne Bruins vs. Independence Patriots

The Browne Bruins will face off against the Independence Patriots at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Browne comes in on four and Independence on five.

On Thursday, Browne made easy work of Camelback and carried off a 13-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Shyla Vasquez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Dania Duran was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Anahi Rocha was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Browne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They blew past Copper Canyon 21-4 on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.

Browne's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.

Browne took their victory against Independence when the teams last played back in April of 2016 by a conclusive 22-15. Does Browne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Independence turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
