Homestead and Slinger are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Highlanders will host the Owls at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Homestead will be strutting in after a victory while Slinger will be coming in after a loss.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Homestead nor Pius XI Catholic made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Highlanders had just enough and edged out the Popes 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Highlanders have posted since April 25th.

Homestead got a great performance from Sean Lemke as he struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Lemke a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Levin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 matches. Joe Simon also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Slinger faced Whitefish Bay in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Owls fell just short of the Blue Dukes by a score of 9-8. The Owls' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Kaleb Burkel was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Williams, who went 3-for-5 with two runs.
Homestead's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-14. As for Slinger, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Homestead has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Slinger struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Homestead might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Slinger in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Highlanders have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
