The Big Valley Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell to Butte Valley 58-54. That's two games in a row now that Big Valley has lost by exactly four points.
Leif Lewis and Tzintzintli Moya certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Lewis scored 20 points along with six rebounds, while Moya scored 11 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lewis has scored all season.
Butte Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Burrow, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Burrow is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Allen, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals.
Big Valley has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season. As for Butte Valley, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-7.
Big Valley will look to defend their home court on Monday against Plumas Charter at 5:30 p.m. Plumas Charter is coming into the matchup with three straight victories on the road, so Big Valley is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Butte Valley, they will square off against Bethel Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bethel Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
