The Burlington Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Stratton Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burlington will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
Even though Burlington has not done well against Limon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Burlington escaped with a win against Limon by the margin of a single free throw, 49-48. The win was just what Burlington needed coming off of a 54-24 defeat in their prior matchup.
Burlington can attribute much of their success to Trinitee Holmes, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Kiyarra Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Holmes hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games.
Stratton aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Tuesday extended their overall winning streak to five. They enjoyed a cozy 52-36 win over Flagler. Given Stratton's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Flagler is ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Burlington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Stratton, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
Burlington beat Stratton 49-40 when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Does Burlington have another victory up their sleeve, or will Stratton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
