Volleyball Recap: Taft Takes a Loss

If Taft was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Warren on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Raiders fell just short of the Sotomayor WILDCATS by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Raiders have struggled against the WILDCATS recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Taft wouldn't go down easily and took Sotomayor into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-14, 18-25, 20-25, 16-14.

Despite the loss, Taft still got an impressive performance from Addison Duarte, who had 24 assists and 14 digs. With that strong performance, Duarte is now averaging an impressive 12.1 assists per game. Taylor Lee was another key player, getting 23 assists and six digs.

Zoey Aguayo was nothing short of spectacular for Sotomayor: she had 25 assists and 13 digs. That's the most digs Aguayo has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Marina Soliz, who had 13 digs and one assist.

Taft's loss dropped their record down to 23-13. As for Sotomayor, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 20-18.

Taft didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 defeat against Harlan on the 17th. As for Sotomayor, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Warren on the 17th.
