The Lutheran Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to La Marque. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
La Marque's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tiana Burton led the charge by scoring 19 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Burton has scored at least 25% of La Marque's points. Another player making a difference was Taryl Jones, who scored 18 points.
Lutheran has fallen quite a ways from their 26-12 record last season and are now at 1-7. As for La Marque, they pushed their record up to 3-9 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lutheran will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on John Paul II at 4:00 p.m. on December 20th. As for La Marque, they will head out on the road to face off against Brazosport at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
