Crawfordsville is 9-1 against Danville since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Athenians will head out to square off against the Warriors at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Crawfordsville earned a 7-3 victory over Benton Central.
Landon Gerold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Crawfordsville let Ledger Lyons and Matt Miller run wild. Lyons got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Miller went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Lyons a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Danville had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against North Putnam by a score of 6-1 on Friday.
Ethan Wooten was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Danville is undefeated when Wooten allows two or fewer earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Wooten was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and three doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aiden Chiodo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jacob Irving, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
