5A District 4 recap September 24, 2013
Kamal Cass of Clovis ran for the longest rushing play in 5A District 4 this season against Cleveland last week. Cass ran for 90 yards on the play and finished with 195 on the day as his team fell to the Storm.
Carlsbad was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Alamogordo. The Cavemen came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Cass was the most successful running back in the league this week. Dakota Yandell also contributed to the rushing game with 53 yards on the ground.
Cass was a passing and rushing force as Clovis lost to Cleveland.
Christian Caldwell was the best receiver in the league this week as Eric Roanhaus' team lost to Heath Ridenour's team.
Carlsbad's Rodney Holcon and Travis Kessler have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A District 4 in both passing and receiving yards. Holcon has thrown for 752 yards this season, while Kessler, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 18 catches for 223 yards. Cass from the Wildcats leads the league in rushing with 567 yards.
Hobbs extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Onate, 54-33. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Eagles.
