Matt Santillo and Jackson Barber made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Santillo didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Barber pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Santillo also tossed no walks, which is notable because Riverside is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 3-7 otherwise. At bat, Santillo went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Barber went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Barber a new career-high.
In other batting news, Riverside got a massive performance out of Cole Vogel, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Vogel is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Chase Boehm, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Chartiers-Houston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-7 heartbreaker at the hands of California. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Buccaneers have suffered since April 2nd.
Chartiers-Houston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dominic Cumer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Parker Riggle was another, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Chartiers-Houston's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Riverside, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Riverside skirted past Chartiers-Houston 5-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buccaneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
