After flying high against the GVCS Broadfording Lions last Saturday, the Mountain Ridge Miners came back down to earth. Mountain Ridge received a tough blow on Wednesday as they fell 62-43 to Allegany. While losing is never fun, Mountain Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Allegany is ranked 50th).
Mountain Ridge's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Breighner, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Breighner grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Cobe Penick, who scored seven points.
Mountain Ridge's defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 5-6. As for Allegany, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Ridge will take on Northern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Allegany, they will be playing at home against Southern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Saturday.
