Colonial hasn't had much luck against Freedom recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Grenadiers will take on the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Colonial has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Colonial fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Cypress Creek on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They came up short against the Bears, falling 19-7.
Colonial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Javen DeLeon, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another was Josiah Kolin, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Freedom ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Edgewater 7-5.
Nolan Kliegl made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 7.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Albert Abad was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
Freedom has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Colonial, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Colonial suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Freedom when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Grenadiers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
