Softball Recap: Timberline Takes Down Ranked Centennial

Timberline faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wolves blew past the Patriots 18-8. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Delaney Wright was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Ayla McDaniel and Mallorie Casch did most of the damage at the plate: McDaniel went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Casch went 4-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Casch has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Logan, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Timberline always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Timberline's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timberline will venture away from home to challenge Rocky Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves are facing the Grizzlies at the right time seeing as the Grizzlies are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Centennial, they will head out to square off against Mountain View at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
