Basketball Game Preview: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. Anson Bearcats

The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls will challenge the Anson Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Stanly is looking for their season's first victory.

South Stanly is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They had to suffer through a 61-34 loss at the hands of West Stanly. While losing is never fun, the Rowdy Rebel Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 354th, while the Colts are ranked 85th).

Despite the loss, South Stanly saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kanija Colson dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Colson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Anson ended up a good deal behind Montgomery Central on Tuesday and lost 44-25. The matchup marked the Bearcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

South Stanly's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Anson, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

South Stanly came up short against Anson in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 42-29. Can South Stanly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
