The Hubbard Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight defeat. They fell 49-36 to Lakeview. Hubbard was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lakeview apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Hubbard's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Palumbo, who scored eight points along with three steals. Palumbo is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cara Green, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Lakeview's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenna Werner, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Annabelle Humphrey was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Hubbard has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Lakeview, their victory bumped their record up to 6-15.
Hubbard will head out on the road to square off against Harding at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hubbard is coming into the game with six straight losses on the road, meaning Harding will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Lakeview, they will be playing at home against Howland at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Howland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lakeview in Ohio (Howland is ranked 57th, while Lakeview is ranked 665th).
