Basketball Recap: Poplarville Falls Despite Big Games from Kelbie Young and Briahna Burt

Poplarville was the 37-26 winner over Forrest County Agricultural when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Poplarville Hornets took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Forrest County Agricultural Aggies on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Aggies are ranked 83rd).

Briahna Burt and Kelbie Young certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Burt dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards, while Young posted six points. That's the most points Young has posted since back in November of 2024.

Poplarville has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Poplarville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 45-20 loss against Moss Point on the 20th. As for Forrest County Agricultural, they will head out on the road to square off against Columbia at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
