The Eagle River Wolves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a rough 81-27 loss at the hands of Auburn Mountainview. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Eagle River came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 34th in Alaska, while Auburn Mountainview is ranked 113th in Washington).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Auburn Mountainview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Caleb Bowden, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and five steals. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Arius, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Eagle River bumped their record down to 0-3 with that loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Auburn Mountainview, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle River and West Anchorage will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. West Anchorage will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Auburn Mountainview, they will head out on the road to face off against Kent-Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
