The Richland Northeast Cavaliers struggled with offensive rebounds on Wednesday (the Spring Valley Vikings had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Richland Northeast took a hard 62-48 fall against Spring Valley. Richland Northeast lost against Spring Valley in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 70-28 score last time.
Richland Northeast's loss came despite strong showings from Zimarika Moorer and Lujain Jallab. Moorer scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Jallab scored 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moorer has scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spring Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mariana Moody, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Moody has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Chisholm, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Richland Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Spring Valley, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richland Northeast will challenge Irmo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Irmo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 two weeks ago. Spring Valley on the road again on Wednesday and play against Rock Hill at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th. Rock Hill is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
