Reed Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Owen Simmons was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. Carson Stuart also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Purvis hadn't done well against Oak Grove recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Everything went Purvis' way against Oak Grove as Purvis made off with a 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Tornadoes, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Jacob Parker, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ethan Walker, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Purvis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Grove only posted an OBP of .333.
Purvis pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia Academy, their record is now 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Columbia Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Purvis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Columbia Academy might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Purvis in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can Columbia Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
