Parker Kizer produced another solid performance rushing for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Kizer is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 183 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Kirven, who rushed for 82 yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Holly Hill Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 368 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Laurens Academy faced King Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Crusaders lost 44-22 to the Knights. The matchup marked the Crusaders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Holly Hill Academy will need to focus on slowing down Ethan Collins, one of several Laurens Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 175 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 71 yards on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Elijah Hornberger, who gained 131 total yards and a touchdown.
Holly Hill Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Laurens Academy, they moved to 8-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Holly Hill Academy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 375.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Laurens Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 264.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Holly Hill Academy against Laurens Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 69-22 victory. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
