Baseball Game Preview: Honoka'a Dragons vs. Ka'u Trojans

Honoka'a has gone a perfect 8-0 against Ka'u recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Dragons will take on the Trojans at 3:00 p.m. Honoka'a is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

If Honoka'a beats Ka'u with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Dragons put the hurt on Hawaii Prep with a sharp 7-0 victory on Friday. That looming 7-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Dragons yet this season.

Josyah Napoleon-Umeda made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Napoleon-Umeda was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

In other batting news, Isaac DeRego was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Rory Crabbe was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Ka'u had to start their season on the road last Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 5-1 to Hawaii Prep. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Ka Makani: they've now lost four in a row.

Honoka'a's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Ka'u, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Honoka'a got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Ka'u by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
