After a string of three wins, the Edwin O. Smith Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were dealt a 42-14 defeat at the hands of Platt. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Edwin O. Smith in their matchups with Platt: they've now lost three in a row.
Noah Cordone and Connor Ouellette certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Cordone picked up 112 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Ouellette threw for 166 yards and a touchdown.
Joel Rey was his usual excellent self, rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown. Rey is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. Zackery Baker was in the mix too, providing Platt with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Edwin O. Smith to a paltry 201 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Platt's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out four times before it was all said and done. Jayden Vega was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Edwin O. Smith's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Platt, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Edwin O. Smith and Tolland will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:30 p.m. on November 21st. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Tolland is ranked 78th, while Edwin O. Smith is ranked 91st). Platt will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Maloney at 10:30 a.m. on November 23rd. Maloney is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
