The Coronado Islanders are taking a road trip to square off against the Point Loma Pointers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Coronado will be strutting in after a win while Point Loma will be coming in after a loss.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Coronado and Morse, and Coronado kept the tradition alive. The Islanders put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 15-4 victory on Friday. With that win, the Islanders brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Ali Pecus made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jersey Cunningham, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Parker Thompson, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Coronado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Point Loma has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.5 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 13-4 to Cathedral Catholic. The Pointers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Like Coronado, Point Loma also got a great game from a two-way player: Ella Poulin. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Poulin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Poulin wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Annika Isaacson, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Leyton MacPherson was another, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Coronado pushed their record up to 6-9 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Point Loma, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-4-1.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Coronado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Point Loma struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Coronado came up short against Point Loma in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 3-0. Can the Islanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
