Prairiland and Commerce are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Prairiland Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Commerce Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Prairiland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 858th, while Commerce is ranked 267th).
Prairiland won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Rains, falling 71-16. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Prairiland in their matchups with Rains: they've now lost four in a row.
Commerce has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 43-35 to Edgewood on Thursday.
Prairiland's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 13-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Commerce, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-7.
Prairiland might still be hurting after the 64-38 defeat they got from Commerce in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Prairiland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
