The Sharpsville Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the North East Grape Pickers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sharpsville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Sharpsville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Cambridge Springs on Thursday as they made off with a 20-2 win. With that victory, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Lincoln Breit and Gabe Titus made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Breit struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Titus tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sharpsville is 2-1 when Breit allows one or fewer earned runs, but 2-6 otherwise. At the plate, Breit went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Titus went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Titus has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Travis Wilding, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Dominic Tarnoci was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Sharpsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.
Meanwhile, North East fell victim to Corry and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Beavers by a score of 2-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Grape Pickers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Sharpsville's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for North East, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.
Sharpsville skirted past North East 10-8 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
