Economedes and La Joya are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Economedes Jaguars will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the La Joya Coyotes at 6:00 p.m.
Economedes suffered their biggest defeat yet this season last Friday. They were outmatched by Los Fresnos at home and fell 79-33. Economedes was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-17.
Despite the defeat, Economedes got a solid performance out of Nathaniel De La Garza, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That was a full 39.4% of Economedes' points, marking the 13th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Enriquez, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, La Joya came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged Edinburg out 47-44. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory La Joya has posted since December 19, 2023.
Economedes' defeat dropped their record down to 12-11. As for La Joya, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-13 record this season.
Economedes came up short against La Joya when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 53-48. Thankfully for Economedes, Ethan Moya (who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
