The Hanford West Huskies are taking a road trip to challenge the Selma Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hanford West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Hanford West will bounce into Friday's game after beating Reedley, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Huskies put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 9-3 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.
Rylan Montoya spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hanford West got a massive performance out of Karmen Vazquez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennidy Perryman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Hanford West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reedley only posted a batting average of .250.
Selma not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Central Valley Christian a 13-0 shutout.
Gabriela Pena made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pena was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Audrina Quintana was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Jayleen Sisavanh also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hanford West's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Selma, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.
Hanford West's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. The Huskies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Selma, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Hanford West continue to outrun the ball?
Hanford West might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Selma in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
