The Reedley Pirates will challenge the Fowler Redcats at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Reedley saw some tournament action on Saturday. They put the hurt on Orange Cove with a sharp 9-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.
The team relied heavily on Jamilah Taylor, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Kristyn Gordon was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Taylor wasn't the only one making solid contact: Reedley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Fowler had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They never let the Wolf Pack get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Redcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.
Ridgeview's batters probably weren't too happy with Izzy Lopez, who pitched a no hitter (she gave up a single walk). Lopez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bailey Monis and Alexis Alvarado did most of the damage at the plate: Monis went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one triple, while Alvarado scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those four RBI gave Monis a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andreya Mendoza, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Fowler's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Reedley, their record now sits at 7-8.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Reedley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Fowler struggles in that department as they've averaged .401. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reedley came up short against Fowler in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 11-6. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
