The Jefferson Academy Jaguars had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Peak to Peak with a 50-44 win on Saturday. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 6 on the offensive boards, as Jefferson Academy did.
Leading Jefferson Academy to victory were Jimeto Orji and Dawson Smith. Orji dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Smith scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Neely, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Jefferson Academy used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Peak to Peak. And. Smith made the most of the opportunity, scoring 23 points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Elijah Eschmeyer and Tysen Burton certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Eschmeyer scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, while Burton scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Jefferson Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-6. As for Peak to Peak, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.
Jefferson Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Bennett at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. Peak to Peak will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Wheat Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Wheat Ridge is coming into the game with four straight losses at home, meaning Peak to Peak will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
