The LaBrae Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the Crestview Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. LaBrae is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, LaBrae came up short against Girard and fell 9-6. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leah DeArmitt was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, she gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest she's had over her last six games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Riley Rowe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, while Crestview put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for David Anderson. The Rebels blew past the Blue Devils 12-0. Considering the Rebels have won six matches by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like LaBrae, Crestview also got a great game from a two-way player: Emma Snyder. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Snyder was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Crestview let Brenna Figley and Alivia Shetler run wild. Figley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Shetler went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Shetler has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lainey Milhoan, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Crestview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Crestview and bumps their season record up to 12-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for LaBrae, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 17-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. LaBrae has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went LaBrae's way against Crestview in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as LaBrae made off with a 12-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
