The St. John Fighting Herald will head out to challenge the Geneva Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
St. John is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering University School just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They came up short against the Preppers, falling 7-1.
St. John saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Anderson, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Geneva got the win against Conneaut on Saturday by a conclusive 12-6. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Andrew Oros was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryce Juncker, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Geneva kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Geneva pushed their record up to 5-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for St. John, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Geneva's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. John hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .433. It's a different story for Geneva, though, as they've only averaged .205. Will they be able to contain St. John's hitters?
St. John skirted past Geneva 10-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Herald since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
