Baseball Recap: Hubbard Extends Winning Streak to Four

Hubbard entered their tilt with Back of the Yards College Prep on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats a 7-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-1 on Wednesday.

Ricardo Romo was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, Luis Bautista and Jaden Rodriguez did most of the damage at the plate: Bautista scored a run and stole four bases while going 2-for-2, while Rodriguez scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave Rodriguez a new career-high. Serafin Millan was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Hubbard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .438 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Hubbard's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Back of the Yards College Prep, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.
