Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Valley will be strutting in after a win while Rio Grande will be coming in after a loss.
Valley had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They took their contest on the road on Saturday with ease, bagging a 65-36 victory over Cibola. That 29 points margin sets a new team best for Valley this season.
Giana Roybal was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayton Gomez, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Rio Grande came up short against St. Michael's on Friday and fell 36-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Rio Grande has scored all season.
Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Rio Grande, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Valley against Rio Grande in their previous meeting back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 56-29 win. Will Valley repeat their success, or does Rio Grande have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
