Basketball Recap: Javon Brewton Key Part of a Team Effort in Thunderhawks Win

Prairie View won the last time they faced Boulder and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Prairie View Thunderhawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Boulder Panthers, sneaking past 62-59. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderhawks.

Prairie View's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Javon Brewton, who posted 22 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Chidiebere Akotaobi, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards.

Prairie View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Boulder's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lake Smith, who earned 23 points and four steals. The contest was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lewis Racine, who went 8 for 13 on his way to 17 points and five assists.

Prairie View pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Boulder, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Prairie View will square off against Westminster at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Prairie View is facing Westminster at the right time seeing as Westminster is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Boulder, they will challenge Brighton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Brighton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
