The Luling Eagles will head out to face off against the Poth Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Poth will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Luling extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Nixon-Smiley.
Nedeyin Magallanez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Magallanez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Serenity Nunez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Stevie West was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Luling hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Poth made sure to put some runs up on the board against Stockdale on Friday. The Pirates blew past the Brahmas 12-5.
Like Luling, Poth also got a great game from a two-way player: Karlee Kroll. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Kroll has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Serna, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jetta Jorden, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Poth has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Luling, the win got them back to even at 13-13.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Luling has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .486. However, it's not like Poth struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Luling might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Poth when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
