Softball Game Preview: DeRidder Dragons vs. Iowa Yellowjackets

The DeRidder Dragons will square off against the Iowa Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. DeRidder has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

DeRidder took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Barbe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. DeRidder skirted past Barbe 14-12.

Laila Roberson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and nine unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had over her last seven matches. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Demi Burks was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kamoree Childs was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Iowa came up short against Live Oak on Saturday and fell 9-6. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

DeRidder has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. Iowa's loss dropped their record down to 15-7.
