They walked away with a 66-53 win over Kingman Academy. Given Arizona Lutheran Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Tigers are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arizona Lutheran Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Stephan Iron shell led the charge by scoring 18 points along with two steals. Iron shell hasn't dropped below 17 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Guerrero, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Kingman Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cade Benson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Benson has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 12 times he's played. Josh White was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Arizona Lutheran Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season. As for Kingman Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-11.
Arizona Lutheran Academy will take on the Crimson Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Trivium Prep comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Kingman Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
