Having just played yesterday, the Southwestern Piasa Birds will head out on the road to face off against the Vandalia Vandals at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Southwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
Southwestern's game was all tied up 17-17 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 38-29 to Greenfield/Northwestern. Southwestern has not had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Southwestern had strong showings from Ian Brantley, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Rocky Darr, who scored 11 points. That was a full 48.3% of Southwestern's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 71-42, which was the final score in Vandalia's tilt against the Panthers on Friday. Vandalia has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Vandalia, they dropped their record down to 10-15 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Southwestern beat the Vandals 57-50 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwestern since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
