Citizens Christian Academy and Fullington Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2019, but likely not for long. The Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Wayne County hit Citizens Christian Academy with a seven-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots lost 11-5 to the Yellow Jackets. The loss put an end to the Patriots' undefeated start to the season.
Emma Gourley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brilynn Waldron, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fullington Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in July. Everything went their way against Twiggs Academy on Tuesday as they made off with a 17-2 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Fullington Academy considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Brooklin Cromer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Cromer was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Fullington Academy let Evelyn Fletcher and Rayelee Johnson run wild. Fletcher went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Johnson went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Fletcher has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izzy Ross, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
The win got Fullington Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Citizens Christian Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Citizens Christian Academy skirted past Fullington Academy 7-5 in their previous matchup back in August of 2024. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
