Basketball Recap: Rocky River's Run of Four Straight Victories Now Over

After flying high against A.L. Brown last Wednesday, Rocky River came back down to earth. The Rocky River Ravens took a 45-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Charlotte Catholic Cougars on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ravens this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 39-36 back in January.

Loss or not, Rocky River got some senior leadership from Camille Montgomery and Tristin Jarrett. Montgomery posted 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Jarrett dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards. What's more, Jarrett also racked up three steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lundyn Spears, who scored two points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Rocky River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Charlotte Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaitlyn Farrell, who put up five points along with nine boards and five assists. Maggie Kernodle was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

With the defeat, Rocky River broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-6. As for Charlotte Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.

Rocky River will venture away from home to face off against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Rocky River surely won't give up without a fight. As for Charlotte Catholic, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Charlotte Catholic Cougars duke it out with the Garinger Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
