The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 54-38 win over Hampton. The win was a breath of fresh air for Wilcox-Hildreth as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wilcox-Hildreth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Gruwell, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Johnson, who scored 15 points.
When it comes to explaining why Hampton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eli Arndt. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points. Arndt scored a full 36.8% of Hampton's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Grant Ferguson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Wilcox-Hildreth's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Hampton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Wilcox-Hildreth's road trip will continue as they head out to face Kenesaw at 2:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Hopefully Kenesaw focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. Hampton will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Harvard at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Harvard is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
