River Valley recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Norte Vista, who took down 300th ranked Moreno Valley, 34-31.
The Braves moved up to 508 from 655 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in River Valley. Norte Vista was able to make the jump by besting the Vikings 34-31.
La Sierra's dynamic duo of Dereck Cruz and Johnny Salazar proved tough for Jurupa Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cruz threw for 105 yards and one touchdown and Salazar had 63 yards receiving. Acquarey Eddington helped La Sierra's passing attack out by catching one ball for 25 yards.
Sekoania Pailate was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 196 yards on 18 carries as Moreno Valley bested the Jaguars. Teammate Taliuaki Suliafu added to the ground attack by rushing for 71 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback Dane Wadkins of Ted Wadkins' team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 844. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Patriot's JD HERNANDEZ has rushed for 575 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Miguel Antolino. The La Sierra star has 24 catches for 351 yards.
A big matchup in River Valley this week will be when Jurupa Valley takes on the Warriors. At the moment, Joe Gerez's team is in fifth, while Patriot is in second.
La Sierra took down the Jaguars 36-18 last week, the largest margin of any game. Cruz ran for 123 yards in the win.
