Softball Recap: Brookeland Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

Brookeland put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Colmesneil Bulldogs a 20-0 shutout. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 11 runs or more this season.

Paige Powell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Brookeland let Gracelynn Lopez and Caylee Morgan run wild. Lopez scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Morgan went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two runs gave Lopez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelyn Strother, who scored a run while going 1-for-1.

Brookeland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three strikeouts batters in four consecutive contests.

Brookeland pushed their record up to 7-4-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Colmesneil, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Looking ahead, Brookeland will take on Zavalla at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Colmesneil, they will challenge Hemphill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
