On Thursday, the Peabody Warhorses faced the New Iberia Yellowjackets in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Everything went Peabody's way against New Iberia as Peabody made off with a 49-28 victory. Peabody might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won nine games by 21 points or more this season.
Justin Burns was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Burns is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
New Iberia lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Austin Delahoussaye, who scored seven points. Another player making a difference was Wayne Randall-bashay, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
New Iberia struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Peabody pulled down 28 offensive rebounds.
Peabody is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for New Iberia, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Peabody won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lafayette at 7:30 p.m. on December 29, 2023. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lafayette comes in on five and Peabody on three. New Iberia will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against St. Martinville at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Martinville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Louisiana Rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while New Iberia is ranked 12th).
