Baseball Recap: Princeton Snaps 14-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Nicholas County, Princeton was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-4 margin over the WestSide Renegades. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Renegades, too.

Deegan Walters was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last five matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Braydon Dalton looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Combs, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Jackson Lester was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.

Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as WestSide only managed six hits.

Princeton's victory ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-22. As for WestSide, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Princeton will venture away from home to take on PikeView at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for WestSide, they will square off against Man at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
