The Rossville Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Frontier Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Rossville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Rossville had taken Tri-County down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Hornets fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 7-6.
Avery Layton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 12 strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addi Gorbett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Allie Elliott, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, Frontier was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 25th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 19-7 to Carroll.
Addi Govert was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Tatum Lear was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Rossville's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Frontier, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Frontier's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Rossville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Frontier, though, as they've been averaging only 2.8 strikeouts. Will Rossville keep running through batters, or will the Falcons buck the trend?
Everything went Rossville's way against Frontier when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Rossville made off with a 14-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
