Venus is 1-9 against Alvarado since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Venus Bulldogs will be staying on the road to face off against the Alvarado Indians at 5:45 p.m. on January 23rd. Venus will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1077th, while Alvarado is ranked 464th).
Venus suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Godley, falling 59-26.
Meanwhile, Alvarado put the finishing touches on their 11th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Ferris on the road to the tune of 67-38. The win was familiar territory for Alvarado who now have three in a row.
Candra Bridgewater was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That's the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. Joslyn Jarmon was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and seven steals.
Venus has not been sharp recently, as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-19 record this season. As for Alvarado, they now have a winning record of 15-14.
Venus took a serious blow against Alvarado when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 52-23. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jarmon, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Now that Venus knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
