Even though the Bayard Tigers have not done well against the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Bayard walked away with a 49-40 win over the Mustangs. The win made it back-to-back wins for Bayard.
It was another big night for Joslyn Shay hopkins, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lexi Fiscus, who scored 11 points.
Loss or not, Gordon-Rushville got some senior leadership from Taylor Trinity and Haley Johnson. Trinity scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, while Johnson. scored 14 points along with two steals.
Gordon-Rushville struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bayard is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Gordon-Rushville, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
Bayard won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Bridgeport will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. As for Gordon-Rushville, they and the Lions will face off at 2:00 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
