In this week's power rankings, we saw one team go soaring up and another team come crashing down, along with everything in between. We'll dive into that and more in this week's report.
Welcome
National Christian Academy gave both Gwynn Park and its quarterback (sacked seven times) a rough time last week. National Christian Academy picked up a decisive 'W' against Gwynn Park, finishing up at 52 - 14. Senior Jason Mackall was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown). The victory also thrust National Christian Academy into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of the hottest tickets last week involved the clash between Our Lady of Good Counsel (ranked 4th in MD) and St. Joseph's Prep (ranked 1st in PA). Victory was within reach, but Our Lady of Good Counsel ultimately lost 34 - 27 to St. Joseph's Prep. It wasn't all bad, though, since the team's performance bumped it up one place in the power rankings.
Movin on Up
Flowers will have a better view of things this week after its strong showing last week propelled it seven spots up the power rankings. That was the biggest rise of the week. The final score between it and Eleanor Roosevelt was a 40 - 0 blowout in Flowers's favor. Flowers did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated.
No Stoppin 'Em
The match between Oakdale and Bowie last week put some strain on the scoreboard; in fact, with a total of 84 final points, it was the highest scoring contest in the power rankings for the week. Oakdale took its contest against Bowie by a conclusive 56 - 28 score. Nevertheless, Oakdale did not have enough punch to impress the power rankings algorithm and slipped one spot in the rankings.
