Great Western recap October 29, 2013
Ontonagon's Drew Morris rumbled for the longest rushing play in Great Western this season in his game against Baraga last week. Morris ran for 68 yards on the play and finished with 142 on the day as his team topped the Vikings.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Forest Park beat Lake Linden-Hubbell 35-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Morris provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Ontonagon topped Baraga. He completed 2 passes for 35 yards and also ran for 142 yards.
Tony Soumis was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 149 yards on 11 carries as David Linczeski's team bested Doug Hodges' team.
Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield]'s offense cannot be tamed this season and the Miners feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ben Zielinski has thrown for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Jess Mazzon has 23 catches for 394 yards.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield]'s Mazzon goes up against Forest Park's Connor Kezerle.
Next week's game between the Miners and Bill Santilli's team will feature a good passing match up as Zielinski will test his arm against Kezerle's defensive ability.
The Trojans are currently in first, while Gogebic [Johnston/Wakefield] is in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Forest Park and Mark Mazzon's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Trojans comes in having scored 299 this season, while the Miners have scored 243. Forest Park scored 35 points last week as it defeated the Lakes.
Hurley scaled the state rankings by moving to 126 from 159 this week, the biggest jump in Great Western.
