WALDRON, Mich. -
St. Patrick (Portland, Mich.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Collin Lay ran for a touchdown with 6:00 to go, bringing the team to victory over
Waldron (Mich.) 34-26.
After taking the lead on a kick return, the Spartans went into halftime with a 12-7 lead. The Shamrocks scored the winning points with a touchdown run by Lay that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring 19 points in the third, St. Patrick still trailed by 6 points going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped SP pull out the victory.
The Portland school's standout player in the win was Lay. The senior quarterback ran for five touchdowns. He has now scored 19 touchdowns on the season.
Waldron came in giving up 17.8 points per game this season. WHS struggled against the Shamrocks, which came in averaging 56.6 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Waldron, which notched a 46-12 victory over Tekonsha in its previous outing.
